Investing Today for a Greener Tomorrow
Green investing can help you in so many ways!
Green investing is now something that has two meanings. A few years back, if you told someone you were making investments for green, people would think that you were referring to investments that will make money. These days, though, Green investing has become a phenomenon that not only helps you to make the green, but also to do it in an environmentally-friendly way.
There are lots of different ways that you can get into money-making investments that will be good to the Earth. Besides mutual funds that have their specialty in green businesses, there are other techniques for making investments in green ways:
- Invest in businesses whose goals are environmental friendliness. This can include companies that work on research and development for renewable or alternative sources of fuel, recycling companies, "green" product companies, and other businesses with similar foci.
- Invest in companies that have shown their dedication to making themselves as environmentally friendly as possible. For example, redesigning the offices to make them more energy efficient, encouraging employees to car pool or take public transit, extensive recycling programs, etc.
Now that you know what kind of company you want to invest in, it's time to actually locate those companies. There are a few techniques that you can use to seek out these green businesses so that you can use them for your investments. These include:
Pay attention to the latest in current events; especially at green sites. Websites including hugg.com and treehugger.com are terrific places to locate the kind of business you want to put your money into.
- Watch for environmentally-friendly products as you shop on a regular day. When you find one, check out who makes it. Then you can look them up on the internet. The odds are that if they are making a green product, they're likely a green company.
- Avoid starting with industries such as home building, logging, oil, and other related businesses, since the green businesses in those industries are rare to non-existent.
You should also remember that just because a company is green, it doesn't mean it's a good place to invest your hard-earned money. Be certain to research each business you consider before actually making the investment. After all, it's all well and good to invest in a green company, but if it's not giving you a good return on your green, it's not giving you the result you're looking for!
