Student Profile
I am a graduate of the Almeda University having done so last year in December. Since that time, my life and perception of MYSELF AND OTHERS has changed. I realize that having a degree makes a difference just having a degree isn't enough. You have to use the knowledge that I stated in my desire to have the degree from Almeda and use it wisely.
I have been somewhat reluctant at times to say where my degree was from. I hesitated because of the people who say "What, an online degree? What good is that?" Well, I had to prove myself through my transcripts and life experience. It is paying off for sure.
In the last year, I founded a non-profit organization and I am now the Executive Director. While I am volunteering most of my time, I am slowly but surely building a client base and volunteers who want to see my work succeed. I know that I exude positive energy and commitment to my project. I work with the mentally ill as a peer support specialist...a paraprofessional for which I am offering specialized training and credentialing. I was, at one time, mentally ill myself. I am recovered.
Yes, recovered. In the last year, I help co-write a book, [contact details below] and have been named and appointed to several boards and commissions over my state of North Carolina. I chair a state committee and cover a 24-county region that recommends legislation to the N.C. General Assembly regarding mental health, developmental disability and substance abuse services reform and also work for policy change.
The past year has been phenomenal. I also have a special person in my life. He is a former U.S. Ambassador and former President of Annapolis. I feel honored to have this person in my life. For how long, I do not know. But the confidence that getting my degree created in me is pushing me into areas I did not know existed. I have a spiritual relationship I am working on with an open mind. Religion is not what is important, people are. And, I believe in the positive energy you can feed on with other people.
I believe that my degree has more than paid for itself. In fact, I am entering Boston University in the fall and majoring in Psychiatric Vocational Rehabilitation. I will be an undergraduate and that is fine with me. This is something I really want to do.
Thank you, Almeda University. You were worth every penny.
