How to Exercise Your Mind to Be More Open
If you want to have a more open mind, it isn’t just a matter of deciding to be open-minded. Having an open mind means a change in your overall perspective and it’s something you need to get into rather gradually. To be able to make sure that you are indeed making progress, you can do certain mental exercises to keep yourself more open to new things.
There are countless activities that you to stimulate this part of your brain, but these specific ones are designed to promote new ways of thinking about your environment and the rest of the world that surrounds you. One hour of increased brain activity every day by stimulating your mind or thinking a lot will make you more creative, more energetic, more sociable. Open yourself to new ways of considering and thinking, and it will simply make you smarter.
One of the best things that you can do on top of stimulating your mind is to continually experience new things. Try new things all the time, whether it be a new activity, a new food, or visiting a new place.
Try the following:
- Stimulate your mind by listening to a different kind of music than you’d usually listen to. Once you’ve tried that, break out into more specific or obscure forms such as New Age, Zouk, Mariachi, Afro-Blues, and some traditional cultural music from around the globe. You may not like it at first, but the point is to give it a chance and look for what people do enjoy about it. Once you get used to it, you might discover that you like it a lot more than you’d ever expected.
- Stimulate your mind through your vision by going to an gallery. Even if you don’t like the actual art on display, allow it to stimulate you and provoke your thoughts.
- Learn about different religions and lifestyles both through research and by visiting different places of worship and cultural centers. Look into different things such as Wicca, Tutsis, Sunnis, Conservatism, the Green Party, Swinging, Anarchism, Discordianism, and Yakuza.
- Learn a new skill. It doesn’t need to be something extensive or earth shattering. Try pottery or basket weaving. If you haven’t done it before, try gardening.
- Work your memory. Try to remember all of your homeroom teachers, math teachers, etc., throughout your life. Memorize the digits of Pi. First memorize the first 50 and then try for 200. It may take you an extensive period of time, but it’s about giving your memory a workout, not rushing through.
- Visit restaurants with food styles that are entirely different than what you’ve ever tried before. Try sushi, Ethiopian food, Persian food, or anything else that is different from your usual fare.
