Simplify the Career Track Ladder to Simplify Your Life
It's extremely easy for things to get out of control in your career, taking on so many different projects and responsibilities - all with the best intentions of advancing, or at least maintaining your career path - without the resources to get things done to the best of your ability without burning the candle at both ends.
Fortunately, there are many ways that you can simplify your working life just by getting organized in the right way, without reducing your workload. Even with the same number of projects and responsibilities, you can enjoy some breathing room through basic simplification.
- Working Style - The way in which you approach your work can be simplified by taking a new attitude about the way you tackle each part of your day.
You can make your life much simpler. Track all of your tasks and determine what times you best deal with these tasks. Are you accomplishing each of your tasks at your best times? If you haven't optimized your schedule yet, you should create one that outlines each of the tasks that you must accomplish throughout the day. This should be broken into early morning, late morning, early afternoon and late afternoon (not hourly). Then, break each part of the day down into activity segments. Allow for change due to different circumstances, and as you discover ways to improve your schedule, make those changes. Try to keep the same pattern every day. Routine makes for great simplicity at work.
- Workspace - The better designed your workspace is, the better your working style will function. To get started, clean all of the "stuff" off the top of your desk. Then, take all of the things that you will need regularly and organize them on your desktop or in your first drawer where they can be quickly accessed. The rest of it should all be placed in drawers, cabinets and shelves, where they can be found quickly but
not until they are needed, they are well out of the way. Paper should be an area of focus for organization. Paper is one of the fastest things to get disorganized and create confusion and clutter. However, with the right system in place, it can become easily manageable.
- Productivity - When projects and responsibilities seem too difficult to manage, make certain that you're working with a "to do" list to keep things under control, and to keep your priorities straight. This will make certain that you're doing the essentials first and moving down from there.
- Goals - Set achievable yet challenging goals for yourself. Know where you want to be at the end of the day, at the end of the week, at the end of the month and at the end of the year. By giving yourself this direction, you'll make certain that you're always focusing on the right path and that you're giving yourself the motivation to get there.
Everything in your working life can be done in a more simple and manageable way. To achieve success, while reducing stress, simplicity is key.
