Home & Family Life:
How to Fit Quality Family Time into a Busy Schedule - Even in a Short Month

More often than not, families just don’t have the time that used to be available for playing, talking, or just sitting and relaxing together.  This is not only an unpleasant thought, but it is taking its toll on family relationships.  Fortunately, remedying this situation is only a matter of a few small changes.

If you are serious about reinstating quality family time into your life, then there are four tips that you can use to get yourself started.

  1. Make Priorities – We all have a very long list of things that always need to be done - grocery shopping, bills to pay, dirty laundry, dirty dishes, dinner etc.  You need to find out the most important things on that list and get them done first. Then work through the rest in order of importance.  Do things in groups of three.  This will make the tasks feel much more achievable.

  2. Keep on Top of Things (as much as possible) – The tidier you can keep your home and office, the less time you will waste looking for things that you need right away.  To get things to the point that you can maintain a tidy home, spend ten to fifteen minutes every day getting things organized.  Once you reach a practical level, make sure you keep it up.

  3. Save Supermarket Time – Grocery shopping is one of the most time consuming activities that we have outside of work.  Get organized and save yourself a lot of time by shopping for all of your non-perishable foods (canned goods, cereals, paper products, diapers etc.) once per month, so that you only have to do much smaller shop every week for fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy and meat. This will remove a great deal of stress and time spent in the grocery store.  It will also shrink your grocery bill, too, as it will minimize impulse shopping and help you to take advantage of bulk shopping.

  4. Cook Big – Since you’ve already been buying economy sized groceries, you may as well take advantage of the fact that you have so many ingredients in the house and double or triple your regular recipes.  Then, split the finished product into meals that you can place in the freezer, saving yourself the need to cook for another day or two.  If you do this every time you cook a meal, you’ll have tons of healthy, home-made meals all ready to go in your freezer, saving you tons of cooking time.
