Cooking from Scratch for Better Physical and Financial Health
If you want to serve healthier food to your family while saving some money on your grocery bill, there is one technique that will help you every time. That technique is cooking from scratch. Nothing is healthier, and nothing is cheaper.
Indeed, that doesn’t sound all that appealing at first, especially to so many of us who have busy schedules and not a lot of time for cooking. Furthermore, not all of us know how to cook, for that matter. Well, it’s time to learn to fit it in and do it right because the difference is incredible!
Home cooked meals – and not just those pre-prepared meals thrown in the oven, but meals cooked from scratch – are by far the most cost effective meals, and ensure the highest number of nutrients, with the lowest amount of chemicals and preservatives.
It wasn’t too long ago that cooking from scratch was considered to be a typical daily practiced. It wasn’t until those highly priced but very convenient meals hit the freezer shelves that we started to relax in the kitchen and have the factories prepare our meals for us. However, those meals are pricey, as well as very high in preservatives, salts, fats, and other chemicals.
If you read the ingredients label on the meals you’ve been serving your family, you’re likely to run into many polysyllabic words that you can’t even pronounce, let alone understand. This is what you’re paying the extra money for?
Even if you only cook from scratch two more times per week than you normally do, the dent you’ll make in your grocery bill, and the improvement to your health will be very meaningful.
The trick is to budget your time properly. Remember, also, that you can freeze your own meals and create your own convenient foods! Every time you cook a meal from scratch, make twice as much as you usually would, and then freeze half. That way, you’ve saved yourself the effort and the extra dishes for a whole other meal. Do this enough, and you’ll have homemade meals every night of the week, with only half the effort! |
