Get That Promotion-Now
If you think it's time you were promoted, you need to take the necessary steps to make it happen. This means making others aware of the dedication and enthusiasm you have for your work. Remember; just because you may feel you deserve a promotion for your hard work, you shouldn't assume others notice your efforts. If you want to be noticed, you need to go beyond what is asked of you and make your talents known.
The following are 5 Steps to start you on the road to the promotion you want now -
Step 1 - Your work is all that matters - Don't make the mistake of thinking that anything but your work will land you a promotion. Being friends with your boss, flattering your boss or working for an organization for a number of years, are not factors worthy of a promotion. Most people who receive promotions have demonstrated exceptional characteristics in their work. They have confidence, excellent communication skills and have gone above and beyond the call of duty.
Step 2 - You are unique - Never forget that there is no one else in the world like you. Your abilities and the way you express them are completely unique and cannot be re-created, only copied. Therefore, one of your goals is to discover what your matchless abilities are by exploring the many facets that exist within your career field. Once you find what you like and excel at, you can focus on these skills and develop them instead of trying to be an expert in everything.
Step 3 - Complete your goals - Stay organized and accomplish projects one at a time. Don't make the mistake of overloading yourself in work you can't handle. Taking on too many tasks at once is a sign that you lack discipline and patience. You need to see one job completely through before you commit to another. When you complete tasks you are successful, and you feel good about your work and yourself. Every time you accomplish a goal you will gain confidence in your abilities.
Step 4 - Communicate - Don't be a stranger to your fellow co-workers. You should encourage friendships and speak to others in a confident manner. However, make sure that you don't appear over-confident or aggressive, as you don't want others to mistaken your confidence as arrogance. Get involved in your work environment. Avoiding people, and keeping to yourself is the best way to remain invisible. Don't fade into the background; make your opinions, ideas and goals heard, and be sure to follow through with them! Help others and don't be afraid to except help in return.
Step 5 - Show leadership - Leaders are not only those who delegate tasks to others, they are also individuals who work harder than the rest to get the job done. Leaders don't wait for results, they make them. A leader takes on more responsibility and proves his/her success by accomplishing the goals they have been trusted with. Taking on a leadership role and being a successful leader separates you from the average worker and gains you recognition and respect.
Although it can be easy to achieve the promotion you are after as long as you have the right reputation and confidence, keep in mind if you are not promoted immediately, this does not mean you are not a skilled worker. If you want a promotion, don't give up! You need to practice patience, work harder by creating more goals for yourself, improve your skills and develop your confidence. The more respect you gain within your workplace, the better your chances of landing that promotion.
