Money and Finance:
The Mask that Covers the Shame of Debt
Many of us have been taught that debt is a shameful thing. Certainly, it isn’t something desirable, but having debt in your life doesn’t mean that you’re bad, nor does it mean that you’re not very smart. Things happen, and debt is frequently the result. There are millions of people who suffer from debt every day, and live with shame that they are in an owing situation.
However, the moment you take off the mask you’ve been wearing, release the shame, and accept that you can overcome your debt; you will be much better prepared to set yourself on the right track.
Use the following debt solutions and break free of the mask you’ve been wearing to cover the shame you feel about your debt.
The first thing you should do is get some control over the way your finances work. You need to gain some focus, not trying to work on all of your debts at the same time. Remember, your bills aren’t going anywhere, so pay one off at a time. Start with the debt that has the highest interest, or – if they all have the same interest rate – start with the smallest debt, and work your way up. This way, your burden will become increasingly lighter.
Get the most out of your bills. Debt relief strategies will frequently allow you to combine all of your debts and bills into one loan where you can make a single payment once every month. Frequently, if you use certain debt solution services, they’ll also be able to reduce or eliminate the interest on some of your bills, so that the monthly payment will eliminate your debt much more quickly.
If you are having problems only with your credit cards, try calling the credit card companies and negotiating a reduction in the interest. Credit card companies are faced quite commonly with the concept of debt relief, and will often be ready help you when you are trying to pay them back. |
