Enjoy Life Now While Saving For Later

When it comes to saving for the future - education, a home, a car, retirement, etc.- we're always told that we have to sacrifice today to ensure that we can save what we want. It's a matter of giving up the instant gratification so that we will ensure future gratification.

But that isn't actually the case. It is possible to enjoy today while saving for tomorrow as well. The trick is to find ways to enjoy yourself fully without cutting into the future too much. Accomplishing this has to do with using the following tips:

• Use your imagination - you can be frugal and still have a good time. Just because you're not spending a lot of money doesn't mean your time has to be restrictive or boring. So use your imagination and come up with some creative ways to have fun but that don't require a lot of cash.

• Make it fun to simplify - make a game out of getting your life and home organized, out of getting rid of stuff, and having yard sales to make some extra cash.

• Rediscover the real things in life - it's not uncommon to get so wrapped up in spending money for entertainment - shopping, going to the movies, eating out, etc - that we forget that there is an awful lot of fun out there for much cheaper - or absolutely free! Think about the fun things you can do without spending a dime - reading (books from the public library are free), writing in a journal or writing poetry or stories, exercising, volunteering, taking a long soothing bath, starting a craft, or going for a walk outside of the city, or in a part of the city that you don't normally visit.

• Put the Priority on the People in Your Life - let the "stuff" slide a bit and start to focus on the people who are important to you. You'll find that all it takes is a comfortable chair or a nice shade under a tree to have a great conversation. A glass of iced tea, lemonade, or hot cocoa, and you don't even need any food, movies, gadgets, or anything else.

• Don't forget to reward yourself - there are times in life where you do just need to splurge. This doesn't mean that you have to be crazy about your spending, but there are times when you have been really good and it's important to celebrate with something special.

All in all, take it easy, and be reasonable. Remember what is important in your life, and realize that spending doesn't necessarily mean fun and happiness. This way, it is possible to enjoy yourself now and still save for the future!
